After LASIK Surgery
After LASIK, How soon can I return to regular activities?
A: After LASIK, you will need to set aside some time to recover. It is not recommended that you return to work immediately after LASIK eye surgery. Depending on your work environment, returning to work could be hazardous to your recovery. Everyone heals differently after LASIK eye surgery, so be sure to give yourself enough time to recover. Some patients are ready to return to work only a day after LASIK, while others require several days. The recovery period may vary according to other types of laser eye surgeries such as PRK (photorefractive keratectomy). Be sure to set enough time aside as needed.
If you normally drive to work, you may want to take off an additional few days from work to recover. Your vision may be a bit blurry after your procedure, and it is important that you have good vision when driving. It is for this reason that you should not drive home after LASIK eye surgery.
Knowing what to expect after LASIK surgery can help you know when you will be able to resume your other normal, daily activities. For example, you may experience some slight discomfort after the anesthetic from your procedure wears off. You may find that you will need to use artificial tears after returning to work. These are lubricating eye drops that can help treat dryness or irritation in your eyes after LASIK surgery. However, if you encounter any serious vision complications you should contact an ophthalmologist or optometrist immediately.
Before you undergo LASIK eye surgery or any other laser eye surgery, you must first take a self-evaluation test and consultation. This will determine your candidacy before going through with the procedure. Click here to take our self-evaluation test!
